2012 Love Thy Neighbor funds recipient:
Angels' Cove in Mt. Vernon, IL
Angels' Cove is a part of the Baptist Children's Home and Family Services which is a private, non-profit agency that has been providing Christ-centered services to Southern Illinois for more than 90 years. Additionally, they operate: The Baptist Children's Home in Carmi and Pathways Counseling Services which has 8 locations in Illinois.
Angels' Cove provides safe, residential care for minors and those over age 18 who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. Whether a young mother chooses to parent or to form an adoption plan for her child, Angels' Cove staffs are there to assist with counseling, networking with community resources, prenatal care, parenting classes and other services.
Their services are offered as a positive alternative to abortion. The program will attempt to meet the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of these young mothers-to-be.
Statistics; According to the most recent statistics (2009), teen pregnancies in Illinois totaled over an astonishing 16,000. In 2011, Angels' Cove served 40 young mothers; however, there is still a great need. In response to the budget cuts to teen pregnancy programs, Cove Connection was developed to reach girls in the home as well as girls in the community. Cove Connection provides parenting classes, skill building, career education and a one-on-one mentor with women who volunteer to guide and support young moms.
